La asociación de “Malteros de España” se constituyó en Madrid el 20 de noviembre de 2001, fundada por Intermalta S.A., Cargill España S.A., La Moravia S.A., Heineken España S.A., Cervezas San Martin S.A. y La Zaragozana S.A., todas las sociedades fabricantes de malta en el momento. Su objetivo es favorecer y promover el cultivo de la cebada malta, potenciando las variedades de mayor producción que cumplan los requisitos de calidad del sector. Incluye entre sus fines la creación, administración y financiación de actividades de I+D, laboratorios, campos de ensayos para cebada y formación profesional, agrícola o social que interesen a la Maltería española con empresas especializadas, institutos de investigación u organismos académicos, mediante la asignación de los fondos necesarios para el desarrollo de dichas actividades.

Cursos de Identificación Varietal con la Escuela Superior de Cerveza y Malta para aportar a proveedores y recepcionistas de materia prima los conocimientos básicos necesarios para una correcta identificación de las distintas variedades de cebada, así como Jornadas Técnicas destinadas a divulgar entre la cadena de valor la importancia de contar con cebadas de calidad.
Guías y Protocolos sobre diversos temas: buenas prácticas de almacenamiento y transporte; aplicación de sistemas de trazabilidad para la seguridad alimentaria y buenas prácticas de higiene en la producción, conservación, almacenamiento y transporte de cereales destinados a ser transformados en malta; cultivo y técnicas saludables para cebada de calidad maltero-cervecera para garantizar el suministro de una cebada sostenible.
